Foot Care Tips

To keep your feet healthy, you must make an effort to care for your feet. Many foot conditions can be prevented with regular foot care, and the sooner you start the better. It is important that your foot health become a daily routine. Below are Feitz Foot Clinic's 10 foot care tips. People who suffer from diabetes should consult a State Registered Chiropodist before you follow any instructions.
1. Don't ignore foot pain. Remember − painful feet are not normal! Many foot conditions can be cured if you visit a podiatrist as soon as possible.

2. Wash your feet daily in lukewarm, soapy water. Avoid soaking feet as this may cause them to become excessively dry.

3. Dry your feet thoroughly as well as between the toes.

4. Apply moisturizing cream all over the feet, but do not apply between the toes.

5. Inspect your feet regularly. Particular attention should be given to changes in color and temperature of your feet.

6. You should contact a chiropodist if your nails become thick, tough and discolored.

7. Any growth on your feet such as calluses, corns and verrucas should be monitored.

8. Excessively dry skin or peeling of the skin should be treated. Seek advice from a podiatrist.

9. Itchy feet may be a sign of a fungal infection of the skin. Seek advice from a podiatrist.

10. Remove any hard skin you may have gently with a skin file or pumice stone. Avoid using a pumice or skin file over a joint. If your lesion is over a joint, seek advice from a chiropodist.
